Nutritionally, cobalt is an essential trace element, which is why it is used in animal nutrition as cobalt deficiency can cause developmental problems. Because of the good solubility of cobalt chloride it can be added to liquid feed supplements and has a correspondingly high availability in animals. Other applications of cobalt(II) chloride are in the manufacture of vitamin B12, as absorption agent for ammonia and poison gases, as reagent and as starting material in the manufacture of other cobalt compounds and in glass and porcelain painting. |
