Vitamin E is a collective term for a group of eight fat-soluble substances with antioxidant and non-antioxidant effects. Four of the eight known forms of vitamin E are called tocopherols. The other four known forms of vitamin E are called tocotrienols. Tocopherols are pale yellowish-reddish, oily liquids, insoluble in water, soluble in fats and oils and the usual solvents for fats. Tocopherols act as natural antioxidants in fats and oils. Because of their vitamin E character they are also used for stimulating circulation and lipid reduction. |
