Ammonia is a strongly pungent-smelling, colourless, toxic gas which makes the eyes water and is suffocating. The density of ammonia gas is lower than the density of air. Ammonia reacts with acids to form ammonia salts, which reduces the acid intensity and buffers acids. This achieves a more favourable hazard classification. |
